The School-Wide Information System (SWIS) is a web-based information system designed by research
faculty and staff at the
University of Oregon.
SWIS was developed in response to school team and
administrator requests for efficient and effective data entry and report generation of on-site
office discipline referral information. The original authors of SWIS include
Seth May,
William Ard III,
Anne W. Todd,
Robert H. Horner,
George Sugai,
Aaron Glasgow, and
Jeffrey R. Sprague.
SWIS authors began working with administrators and school teams in 1993 to respond to the need for
a graphic illustration of their office discipline referral patterns and trends

SWIS was developed and is operated at the
University of Oregon by
Educational and Community Supports (ECS)
faculty and staff. ECS is a research unit focused on the development and implementation
of practices that result in positive, durable and scientifically substantiated changes in the lives of
individuals with disabilities and their families. Members of the unit secure federal and state funding
that targets research, teaching, and practice to create new knowledge, guarantee dissemination, and provide
technical assistance to benefit individuals and organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
